After a 7-day trial, former 19 Kids and Counting reality show star Josh Duggar has been found guilty of downloading and possessing child pornography. Derick Dillard, married to Josh’s sister Jill Duggar, explained to People magazine why he attended several days of his brother-in-law’s trial. Dillard, 32, told the outlet why he and his wife, Jill (Duggar) Dillard, Josh’s younger sister, had attended some parts of the trial.

“We just wanted to, among other things, see the facts for ourselves,” he said, adding, “America is the best country to get justice.”

Derick added that he was heading home to spend time with Jill in the wake of the news but said that he would be releasing a formal statement later.

Dillard tweeted out, “Praying for justice this morning.”

It sounds like he is talking about justice for his brother-in-law’s victims. I assumed that like his wife, Duggar’s relatives would stand by him despite his heinous crimes against children. So, at least there’s that.

Josh Duggar previously faced a child molestation scandal that rocked the nation, resulting in the cancellation of 19 Kids and Counting on July 16, 2015. Duggar faces up to 20 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000 for each count when he’s sentenced at a later date.

He plans to appeal.

“We appreciate the jury’s lengthy deliberations, we respect the jury’s verdict, and we intend to appeal,” Duggar’s legal team said in a statement to NBC News following the verdict.

U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas Clay Fowlkes said Thursday that the verdict shows that no one is above the law.

“This verdict sends the message that these cases are a top priority for our office,” Fowlkes said. “This verdict also demonstrates that no person is above the law. Regardless of wealth, social status, or fame, our office will continue to seek out all individuals who seek to abuse children and victimize them through the downloading, possession, and sharing of child pornography.”

Josh Duggar has seven children with his wife. As we noted earlier today, Josh’s father, Jim Bob Duggar, recently announced his candidacy for a special Senate election in Arkansas.
