A mass shooting has now occurred in Maryland, mere days after a teen girl killed a teacher and a student before turning the gun on herself at a school in Wisconsin. This time the shooting occurred outside a funeral home Tuesday evening.
Police were called to the area around Johnson-Fosbrink Funeral Home in Towson, Maryland, in response to reports of multiple gunshots, WPRI reports. When officers arrived they found an overturned vehicle in flames. Ten people were reported injured in the shooting and one person was pronounced dead. Nine others were transported to a local hospital to be treated, said Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough.
Police are still not sure how many victims were wounded.
According to McCullough, the victims knew the suspect and the shooting was “intentional and targeted toward the individuals involved.” Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the vehicle crash and fire. McCullough said the incident is probably isolated but they also acknowledged this “appears to be a mass shooting.”

Gunfire also damaged the outside of the funeral home and police are investigating reports of shots being fired in surrounding neighborhoods.
Police say the shooting doesn’t appear to have any relation to the funeral home, which was apparently closed at the time of the shooting. They urge anyone who has information regarding the incident to contact Baltimore County Police at (410) 887-4636.
This incident follows the tragic mass shooting that occurred at Abundant Life Christian School in Wisconsin, where 15-year-old Natalie Rupnow allegedly killed a teacher and a student and then turned the gun on herself.
Six other people were injured, and two, Madison Pollice Chief Shon Barnes said, remain in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Four students suffered minor injuries.
Shootings by women and teen girls are exceedingly rare, noted David Riedman, founder of the K-12 School Shooting Database, in a blog post last year. He highlighted one instance in 1979 when a 16-year-old girl shot and killed two and injured several others at a San Diego elementary school.
Mass shootings have long been on the increase in the U.S. and it’s entirely clear that we need better gun control legislation. Republicans like Ron Johnson prefer to answer with “thoughts and prayers and that goes nowhere fast. We’ve been hearing this since the tragic shootings at Columbine High School in 1999.
It’s time for Republicans to quit worshipping the NRA and gun manufacturers who continue to shower them with money. I don’t know how we effect this change, I’m only the messenger.
But I know it has to change.
I’ve included more information below.
