The nation’s 250th birthday is approaching, amid an historic heat wave. And the president isn’t going to let the weather prevent him from giving a long-winded speech for the occasion.

“Despite triple-digit temperatures in the forecast, the famously long-winded Trump is promising to give lengthy remarks ahead of a historic fireworks celebration that will mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence,” USA Today reported on Trump’s July 4 plans. Trump is scheduled to speak at about 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, which means the traditional fireworks display will not take place until later than usual.

“By the way, on July 4, it’s going to be approximately 107 degrees outside, and I’m going to go, and I’m going to make a really long speech just to show that I can do anything,” Trump said Wednesday, during an appearance at the opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in North Dakota.

Trump, as USA Today noted, was exaggerating the actual forecasted temperature, which will be over 100 but not “approximately 107 degrees.”

It’s all part of a “Trump rally” that the president announced in mid-June for July 4, after the previous plan for a series of concerts was scuttled.

“On July 4th, at The Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument, in beautiful and safe Washington D.C., we are going to host the most spectacular TRUMP RALLY of them all, a “TRIBUTE TO AMERICA.” Starting at 7 P.M. EST, this HUGE Celebration will honor our Country’s People, Spirit, Strength, Resolve, and Triumphs,” Trump said in a Truth Social post on June 15, around the time that musical acts began canceling their appearances.

“With the backdrop of the Lincoln Memorial and surrounding the beautifully new Reflecting Pool, more than 300 Members of our strong and talented Military Bands, Orchestras, and Ceremonial Units, will perform Patriotic Melodies and American Classics, and my Playlist (We will have none of those people that put you to sleep and constantly complain!), as we celebrate our Country, and Rally into the next 250 years.”
